Yaama! (Hello and welcome!)

You’re invited to join the Pilliga Cultural Heritage Community Camp, which will be holding a cultural workshop over the coming weeks.

The Gomeroi (Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay) people along with the local community are welcoming people to become Pilliga Protectors and to participate the community camp in the Pilliga Forest.

Camp activities will include Kamilaroi language classes, learning about the unique plant and animals of the Pilliga, soils of the Liverpool Plains, and protecting the forest and Great Artesian Basin. The local community is standing up to say ‘Stop it’, ‘Wanagidjay’ to any destruction in the Pilliga.

Directions to the community camp from Narrabri: (The camp site is signposted Ten Mile Dam)

From Narrabri, head south out of town on the Newell Highway to the most southerly roundabout where you turn left onto the Kamilaroi Highway towards Gunnedah. After 2.2 km, turn right into Gun Club Road (just before the railway overpass) and go straight ahead on the bitumen. 10.6 km from the Kamilaroi Highway, turn right onto Ten Mile Road. From here it is 2.6 km to the short turnoff into Ten Mile Dam. It’s just 17km from closest service stations and supermarkets in Narrabri.

A message from those at camp today: “This is a beautiful camp spot and a beautiful morning in the Pilliga.”

Hope to see you for this Cultural Heritage Community Camp soon. Please spread the word, as friends are needed to stand up for the Pilliga.

Please also stay in touch with the camp on Facebook

With much respect, Winangaya, to all those protecting the Pilliga.
